ABOUT US

LOCAL ANIMAL LOVERS LOOKING OUT FOR CHB'S ANIMALS

When the Waipukurau SPCA closed, Central Hawke's Bay was left without an animal rescue. So a group of us who'd volunteered there started one.

A registered charity since July 2025. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

OUR STORY

Most of us volunteered with the Waipukurau SPCA, some for a year, some for 29. When it closed, we saw a big gap. Unwanted and dumped dogs and cats were turning up and there was nowhere local for them to go.

On top of that, Cyclone Gabrielle and tough economic times have left some families with no choice but to rehome pets they love. They need somewhere kind to turn to.

So we set up Ruahine Animal Rescue. We lean on a network of foster homes across the district, and on a community that keeps showing up for us.
