While many of us are preparing for a safe and warm Christmas, three tiny kittens were fighting quietly for their lives.
They were barely a week old when a local family discovered them, cold and fragile, tucked deep inside their compost heap. Their eyes were still closed. Their little bodies were weak. Without their mum, they had almost no chance of surviving on their own.
There was no dramatic rescue scene. No sirens. No chaos. Just three newborn kittens who needed someone to care enough to help them live.
When they arrived at Ruahine Animal Rescue, they were gently warmed, fed drop by drop with kitten formula, and placed with a specialist foster who began the round-the-clock work of keeping them alive. Slowly, their tiny mews grew stronger. Their bodies relaxed. And then, one by one, Daisy, Tussle, and Holler opened their eyes to a world they very nearly never got to see.
Daisy’s curious stare, Tussle’s determined squeaks, and Holler’s growing confidence are living proof that rescue makes a difference. These three little fighters survived because someone cared. And this is why your kindness matters so deeply.
Animals come to us in crisis every single week. Newborns without mothers. Puppies needing stability and nutrition. Injured or frightened animals who have experienced neglect, trauma, or simply the wrong start to life. Their survival depends entirely on whether we have the resources to say “yes” when the phone rings.
